　　Taking a fan favorite cigar to an insane new level is the whole purpose behind the Asylum 13 Corojo. The first Asylum 13 was a big hit with lovers of full-flavored treats, but in the fevered minds of Asylum Cigars co-founders, Tom Lazuka and Christian Eiroa live the drive to craft ever more prominent flavors, ever better smoking experiences. To this end, the talented torcedors at Eiroa’s Fabricas Unidas factory have subverted the original’s Nicaraguan puro roots by blending and bunching a plethora of all-Honduran tobaccos for the filler. A Honduran binder is applied, and then they complete the transformation by straight-jacketing each 7 x 70 vitola in a thick Corojo grown in the sultry Jamastran Valley in Honduras.

　　The ruddy and smooth cap is complimented nicely by the simple copper-band adorning each stogie. Pray that your cutter can handle some of the larger ring sizes available as the Asylum 13 Corojos go up to an 80 (yes, an 80 ring gauge!), but there’s no harm in using a punch to get to the goodness within. Sweet tobacco in the cold draw intensifies into a spicier, sweeter tobacco flavor in the burn, the cool flowing smoke beginning medium bodied and very creamy. After the first inch, the power has ramped up to medium-full, and there are cocoa and red pepper to let you know this cigar means business. Some tangy citrus and cedar help keep the flavors balanced as the cigar develops to full from midway to the last puffs.

　　While not a cigar for everyone, experienced enthusiasts will find much to enjoy while smoking an Asylum 13 Corojo and shouldn’t need much convincing to try one. A novice with a crazy streak might also find they like the flavors available so consider checking out a few singles to see if you are game.
